Job summary

Martineau King seeks an Associate Attorney to join its civil litigation defense practice in the Charlotte, NC area. The role offers exposure to a broad range of litigation tasks, including brief writing, motion practice, and trial preparation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience required.
• Licensed to practice law in North Carolina or South Carolina or eligible for admissions based on an existing UBE score.
• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
• Experience in civil litigation and insurance defense preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meet with clients to understand legal issues and provide informed advice.
• Explain legal rights, options, and potential outcomes of cases.
• Analyze case facts and precedents to formulate defense strategies.
• Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
• Oversee the discovery process, including depositions and responding to requests.
• Represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, trials, and arbitrations.
• Engage in settlement negotiations when appropriate.
• Advise clients on compliance and risk management.
• Maintain client relationships and ensure ongoing communication.
• Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff for case efficiency.
• Enter time contemporaneously to bill clients; aim for 1900 hours annual.
