Job summary

Baty Otto Scheer P.C. is seeking a qualified Litigation Associate to join its litigation practice in its Kansas City office.

The position requires Missouri and Kansas licensure or eligibility to obtain licenses in both states, and the candidate will support a growing practice with strong research, writing, and analytical abilities. The successful candidate will handle discovery, take depositions, manage case deadlines, draft motions, and participate in court proceedings, working independently

Qualifications

• Active license to practice law in Missouri and Kansas, or eligible to obtain licenses in both states.
• Demonstrated ability in legal research, brief writing, and strategic case assessment.
• Strong written and oral advocacy with client-focused communication.

Responsibilities

• Handle all aspects of discovery, including drafting discovery requests and responses and coordinating with clients and experts.
• Prepare for and take depositions.
• Manage cases by tracking deadlines, delegating tasks to staff, and maintaining client communication.
• Draft motions for court proceedings and respond to opposing filings.
• Participate in court proceedings and support trial readiness.

Baty Otto Scheer P.C. is seeking a qualified Litigation Associate to join its litigation practice in its Kansas City office. Candidates should have excellent academic credentials, as well as advanced communication, writing, and analytical skills. The candidate must be self-motivated with the drive to help shape and expand a growing practice and the ability and confidence to work independently. The ideal candidate will have experience:

• Handling all aspects of discovery such as working with clients to collect discovery, managing experts, and drafting requests and responses to written discovery.
• Preparing for and taking depositions
• Managing cases including identifying and tracking deadlines, delegating tasks to other attorneys and/or staff, and communicating with clients regarding status.
• Drafting motions
• Participating in court proceedings

Qualifications

Licensure in Missouri and Kansas is necessary, and we will work with candidates who can qualify to obtain licenses in both states.
