Sherwood & Truitt Law Group LLC, a boutique firm in Garden City, NY, seeks a driven Litigation Associate with civil litigation experience to join our dynamic legal team. The role targets handling commercial, contractual and real estate disputes while developing your litigation career.

You will draft pleadings, manage discovery, conduct legal research, appear in court, and collaborate with colleagues on trial strategy, deadlines, and billing.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
• 3+ years civil litigation experience preferred, including dispositive motions and depositions.
• Familiarity with NY state and federal court procedures and rules.

Responsibilities

About the Role:

Our boutique law firm is looking for a driven and detail-oriented Litigation Associate with comprehensive civil litigation experience to join our dynamic legal team in Garden City, NY. Experience handling commercial, contractual, and/or real estate disputes preferred, but not required. This is an exciting opportunity to build your litigation career alongside experienced attorneys in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

• Draft and review pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and other litigation documents
• Conduct legal research and analyze case law, statutes, and regulations to support litigation strategy
• Manage discovery processes including depositions, interrogatories, and document production
• Appear in court for hearings, conferences, and oral arguments
• Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel throughout the litigation lifecycle
• Collaborate with colleagues in trial preparation and to develop strategy
• Monitor case deadlines and maintain accurate case files and docket management
• Maintain accurate and current billing records

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
• Admission to the New York State Bar and in good standing
• Proven civil litigation experience (3+ years preferred), including dispositive motions, depositions, and oral argument
• Excellent analytical, communication, and problem solving skills; writing, analysis, research, and organization skills
• Proficiency in legal research platforms, Microsoft Office 365, and case management software
• Familiarity with New York state and federal court procedures and rules
• Interest in developing business
• Potential for hybrid work
