AK Law Firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Accident Investigator (Personal Injury) to join our growing litigation team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced investigator who enjoys working in the field, solving complex cases, gathering critical evidence, and partnering with trial attorneys to build successful personal injury cases.

This position is ideal for professionals with backgrounds in law enforcement, military investigations, insurance claims, Special Investigation Units (SIU), accident reconstruction, private investigations, transportation safety, or other investigative professions.

Position Summary

Litigation Accident Investigator (Personal Injury) serves as the firm's primary field investigator on serious injury, catastrophic injury, and high-exposure liability cases. This position is responsible for responding to accident scenes, preserving evidence, conducting witness interviews, coordinating with expert consultants, performing comprehensive investigations, and assisting attorneys throughout the pre-litigation and litigation process.

This role requires exceptional critical thinking, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to work independently in fast-paced and often unpredictable environments.

Essential Responsibilities
Field Investigations
  • Respond to accident scenes to investigate liability and document evidence.
  • Conduct scene inspections, measurements, photography, and video documentation.
  • Preserve physical and electronic evidence.
  • Identify, locate, and interview witnesses.
  • Obtain recorded statements.
  • Document roadway conditions, lighting, traffic controls, visibility, and environmental factors.
  • Coordinate inspections with accident reconstruction experts and engineers.
  • Assist with vehicle inspections and evidence preservation.
  • Coordinate downloads of ACM/ECM ("black box") vehicle data.
  • Locate surveillance footage from businesses, traffic cameras, and nearby properties.
  • Travel throughout Texas as required.
Litigation Support
  • Partner directly with trial attorneys on high-exposure litigation matters.
  • Conduct liability investigations.
  • Analyze accident circumstances and contributing factors.
  • Assist with deposition preparation.
  • Coordinate expert inspections.
  • Schedule investigative activities.
  • Assist attorneys during mediations and trial preparation.
  • Maintain detailed investigative reports.
  • Document investigative findings within firm systems.
Investigative Research
  • Conduct VIN, driver's license, criminal history, inspection, and lawsuit searches.
  • Perform Westlaw Motor Vehicle searches.
  • Utilize LexisNexis, Westlaw PeopleMap, Company Investigator, and PublicData.
  • Research FMCSA SAFER reports, inspections, violations, and crash history.
  • Conduct social media investigations.
  • Complete defendant background investigations.
  • Review driving records.
  • Research prior police reports.
  • Conduct website investigations.
  • Perform skip tracing and locate additional witnesses.
Evidence Preservation
  • Prepare preservation and spoliation letters.
  • Submit Open Records and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
  • Coordinate evidence collection.
  • Gather injury photographs and supporting documentation.
  • Preserve electronic evidence.
  • Maintain chain of custody documentation when applicable.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Coordinate activities with outside investigators when necessary.
  • Manage multiple active investigations simultaneously.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Exercise sound judgment while representing the firm professionally.
  • Perform other investigative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel throughout Texas as investigations require.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends based on investigative needs.
