Job summary

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Reading or approved reading specialist program is required.
• Postgraduate License with endorsement in reading; supervisory experience preferred.
• Leadership qualities and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Knowledge of Virginia SOLs, supervision of instruction, and curriculum alignment.
• Prior experience as a successful reading teacher.
• Ability to assist in development of school improvement plans.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the point of contact for the reading program; support observations.
• Assist teachers in planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality literacy instruction.
• Develop reading instructional programs across all grade levels.
• Assist in development of school improvement plans.
• Collect and analyze division data for elementary and secondary reading programs.
• Develop and update reading curriculum and pacing guides aligned with SOLs.
• Coordinate long- and short-term reading program planning.
• Provide instructional services and leadership to schools.
• Support remediation and summer programs and manage assigned budgets.
• Keep leadership informed about reading programs and instruction; collaborate with community groups.
