Job summary

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee is currently seeking a Literacy Coordinator to lead our volunteer-based reading intervention program and help improve literacy skills for children across Davidson County.

You will oversee the afterschool reading program, recruit students and volunteers, build partnerships with schools and families, and use assessments to track progress while guiding participants and families. This role offers opportunities to impact many lives through literacy.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (related field) with 1–2 years in literacy programming, or HS diploma with 4 years experience.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and multitasking ability.

Responsibilities

• Oversee afterschool reading program from recruiting students and volunteers to ensuring quality program operations.
• Build and maintain relationships with schools, families, and community partners.
• Conduct reading assessments and use data to track and improve student outcomes.

Position Type: Full-time

Pay Range starts at $22 per hour (or more depending on experience)

What You’ll Need:

• A valid driver’s license.
• Bachelor’s degree (related field preferred) with 1-2 years of experience in literacy programming, OR high school diploma with 4 years of experience.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a knack for multitasking.

Certifications:

CPR/First Aid/AED within 30 days of hire.
