Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a Liquid Systems Responsible Engineer III for cryogenic propellant management hardware across multiple sites. The role blends design support with manufacturing engineering, emphasizing DFM, fabrication, verification, and process documentation.

You will work on propulsion-related fluid hardware, coordinate with suppliers, and help ensure manufacturability and quality per AS9100 standards in a fast-paced spaceflight environment.

Qualifications

  • BS in aerospace, mechanical, manufacturing engineering, physics or related field.
  • 5+ years in cryogenic fluids and mechanical systems, or manufacturing/industrial engineering.
  • Experience supporting development, integration or certification of aerospace systems for flight.
  • Hands-on with fluid/gas components: valves, manifolds, regulators, vessels, instrumentation.
  • Experience translating requirements into manufacturing processes and providing DFM/DFA input.
  • Experience with cryogenic fluid management techniques and technologies.
  • Clear, English-language work instructions and manufacturing documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Support hardware ownership of cryogenic propellant management components, contributing to requirements, design and verification.
  • Work on subsystems within the Zero-g Propellant Management IPT and escalate complex issues.
  • Support trade studies, component design/integration, analysis, and supplier interface for fluid hardware.
  • Track procurements and dependencies to support schedules.
  • Participate in technical meetings on cryogenic hardware development.
  • Support DFM/DFA/DFT reviews and flag manufacturability concerns during design phases.
  • Translate engineering requirements into manufacturing processes for fabrication, assembly, cleaning and testing.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing docs: work instructions, process flows, tool designs, inspection plans.
  • Support root-cause analysis and MRB dispositions under guidance.

You'll support hardware ownership on cryogenic propellant management components while also contributing directly to how that hardware is fabricated, assembled, and qualified for production. This role splits time between technical hardware support (requirements, design reviews, supplier coordination, verification) and manufacturing engineering (DFM/DFA input, process documentation, shop floor troubleshooting, non-conformance support) — working under senior engineer/lead guidance on more complex or ambiguous problems, with growing independence on well-defined scope.**Special Mentions*** Relocation provided* Travel expected up to 25% of the time**Responsibilities include but are not limited to:*** Support hardware ownership of cryogenic propellant management components — contributing to requirements definition, conceptual/detailed design, and verification activities.* Work on defined subsystems and components within the Zero-g Propellant Management IPT, escalating complex or ambiguous problems to senior engineers as needed.* Support trade studies, component design/integration, first-order analysis, and supplier interface for fluid/gas hardware (valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, instrumentation).* Track internal and external procurements and hardware dependencies to support subsystem delivery schedules.* Participate in internal and external technical exchange meetings on cryogenic hardware development.* Support DFM/DFA/DFT reviews for cryogenic hardware designs, flagging manufacturability concerns during design phases.* Help translate engineering requirements into manufacturing processes for cryogenic fluid hardware (fabrication, cleaning, welding/brazing, assembly, leak/pressure testing).* Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation: work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans for assigned hardware.* Support root cause analysis and corrective action for manufacturing non-conformances; contribute to MRB dispositions under guidance from senior engineers.* Evaluate manufacturing methods relevant to cryogenic fluid systems (precision machining, additive manufacturing, cleaning/assembly techniques) and recommend improvements.* Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation activities for new production tooling/lines as hardware scales.* Ensure manufacturing processes align with AS9100/ISO 9001 quality and safety standards.* Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to identify efficiency and cost reduction opportunities.**Minimum Qualifications*** B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, or related technical field.* 5+ years of experience in cryogenic fluids and mechanical systems/components, and/or in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role.* Experience supporting the development, integration, or certification of aerospace systems for flight.* Hands-on experience with fluid/gas components: solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.* Experience contributing to DFM/DFA input on hardware designs and translating requirements into manufacturing processes.* Experience with Cryogenic Fluid Management techniques and technologies.* Experience creating clear, English-language work instructions and manufacturing documentation.* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment spanning both design support and shop floor execution.* Strong verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.* Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.**Preferred Qualifications*** M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.* Human-rated space vehicle experience.* Experience with upper stages, spacecraft, or lunar/deep space hardware.* Exposure to the full life cycle of a propulsion or fluid system.* Experience in high-rate assembly lines for aerospace and/or automotive production.* Specialty commodity/process experience: fluids fabrication, precision machining, welding/brazing, harness fabrication, or composite fabrication.* Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.* Experience with Bill-of-Materials development and BOM reconciliation.* Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices and principles.* Experience with AS9100 quality standards.* Familiarity with 3D CAD (Creo preferred) and FEA tools (ANSYS preferred).### Base Pay Range for:CA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20**Other site ranges may differ** **Culture Statement**Don’t meet all desired requirements?
