Responsibilities

  • Ensures optimal performance and availability of multi-user Linux and VMware environments, coordinating activities with other administrators as required.
  • Manages VMware infrastructure including provisioning, monitoring, resource allocation, and optimization of virtual machines.
  • Performs Linux server administration including account and permission management, configuration management, system tuning, and log analysis.
  • Maintains system documentation, configuration baselines, and ensures compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Evaluates and integrates hardware and software technologies, coordinates installation efforts, and supports system backup and recovery processes.
  • Develops, implements, and enforces policies and standards for managing system resources and maintaining operational readiness.

Job Description

The Navy Integrated Training Environment (NITE) Network Administrator is responsible for administering, maintaining, and securing the Navy Enterprise Tactical Training Network (NETTN) infrastructure, with a primary focus on Linux-based systems and VMware virtualization platforms supporting enterprise-wide modeling and simulation services. The candidate will collaborate with cross-functional engineering and cybersecurity teams to deploy, monitor, and maintain Linux servers, virtual machines, and workstation images throughout the enterprise. Core responsibilities include VMware ESXi and vCenter management, Linux system configuration and hardening, implementation of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), and enterprise patching of RHEL-based systems. The candidate must be capable of working both independently and within a team-oriented environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Requirements
  • Experience administering RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8/9) desktop and server environments.
  • Experience with enterprise patching solutions and applying Linux STIGs.
  • Familiarity with Windows systems (server and desktop) in mixed environment enterprises.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Bash scripting, or other Linux automation frameworks.
  • Experience integrating DoD STIGs, security baselines, and configuration controls in Linux and virtualized environments.
  • Proven ability to balance customer support needs with technical priorities.
Physical Requirements
