Job summary

CACI International Inc is seeking a Linux Systems Engineer to design, build, maintain, and secure Linux-based systems across secure environments, ensuring reliability and performance. You will install and configure Linux OS, monitor systems, develop automation scripts, patch and harden, implement backup and disaster recovery, and collaborate with network teams to achieve high availability.

Requires a TS/SCI with polygraph clearance, 7+ years of related experience, and CCNA; travel up to 10%

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux OS and servers.
  • Monitor performance, reliability, and security; respond to alerts.
  • Troubleshoot Linux, network, and application issues.
  • Develop automation scripts (Bash, Python).
  • Apply updates and patching; harden security.
  • Implement backup and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Collaborate with network and infra teams for high availability.
  • Maintain system documentation and runbooks.
  • Provide guidance to users and admins on Linux.
  • Manage services (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, NTP) within Linux.
  • Architect scalable Linux infra across on‑prem, virtual, and cloud.
  • Deploy Docker and Kubernetes for containerization.
  • Conduct vulnerability scans and security audits.

The Opportunity

The Linux Systems Engineer will function as part of a team of engineers responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and securing Linux-based systems to ensure reliability, performance, and security across in our secure environments.


Responsibilities


  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems and servers

  • Monitor system performance, reliability, and security; respond to alerts proactively

  • Troubleshoot system, application, hardware, and network-related issues on Linux platforms

  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Bash, Python, or similar languages to streamline tasks

  • Perform regular updates, patching, and system hardening to maintain security posture

  • Implement backup, recovery, and disaster‑recovery procedures for Linux environments

  • Collaborate with network engineers and other infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration and high availability of systems

  • Maintain documentation related to system configurations, troubleshooting processes, and operational procedures

  • Support users and administrators by providing technical guidance and resolving Linux-related issues

  • Manage critical infrastructure services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, LDAP, NTP, mail relays) within Linux environment

  • Architect and maintain scalable, highly available Linux infrastructures across physical, virtual, and cloud environments

  • Deploy and manage containerization and orchestration solutions such as Docker and Kubernetes

  • Conduct vulnerability scanning, security audits, and enforce access controls using SELinux or similar tools

  • Perform root‑cause analysis for complex issues involving networking, storage, or application performance

  • Basic Cisco networking management


Qualifications

Typically requires bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and at least 7 years of related experience.


Must have a current TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph

Core Technical Qualifications


  • Strong understanding of Linux operating systems, distributions, file systems, kernel concepts, and system architecture

  • Proficiency in Linux system administration, including installation, configuration, maintenance, performance tuning, and troubleshooting

  • Ability to design, configure, and test Linux servers and operating systems

  • Advanced scripting skills (Bash, Python, Perl) for automation and system efficiency

  • Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or similar platforms

  • Solid knowledge of networking protocols, services, and security hardening (DNS, DHCP, firewalls, routing, etc.)

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid infrastructure environments

  • Ability to monitor and maintain system health, performance, and security events across Linux environments


Security & Compliance Qualifications


  • Implementing security measures, patching, vulnerability remediation, and systems hardening.

  • Experience working within compliance frameworks and audit‑ready environments.

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The Proposed Salary Range For This Position Is


$103,800 - $218,100
