Minimum qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience and a Bachelors, 1+ years and a Masters, or a PhD in Computer Science or related discipline. 4 additional years of experience may be used in lieu of a degree, for a total of 7 years of experience
- Demonstrated experience conducting Linux system administration in operational environments
- Demonstrated work delivery experience supporting IT and telecommunications
- Experience installing/configuring IT/network hardware and software
- Strong communication/ and collaboration skills supporting integrated teams (Peraton, customer, subcontractors)
- Ability to document configurations and procedures clearly
- US Citizenship with an active/current TS/SCI w/ Polygraph is a requirement for this position
Preferred qualifications
- Advanced troubleshooting experience with complex network issues such as IPSec, VXLAN, firewalls, load balancing, and DNS
- Experience with VDI and thin client architectures and operations
- Experience administering security tooling such as enterprise antivirus/EDR, malware detection, IDS, and audit/logging solutions
- Familiarity with open-source security/network tools (e.g., Snort)
- Experience with cloud and data platforms such as OpenStack, Hadoop, and/or Cloudera
- Working knowledge of AWS platforms/services and common deployment patterns
- Familiarity with modern network operations and capability delivery processes
Peraton Labs is seeking a poly cleared Linux Systems Engineer to help design, implement, and sustain secure, mission-focused research infrastructure supporting a Maryland-based research program. This role is hands-on and operations-oriented, with primary responsibilities in Linux system administration and delivery of IT/telecommunications systems in both classified and unclassified environments.
This position requires full-time on-site work at a customer site near College Park, MD.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Implement, maintain, and enhance complex research infrastructure and its security posture across classified/unclassified spaces
- Perform Linux and Windows system administration for workstations and servers
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and integrate GOTS/COTS/open-source solutions
- Support and administer virtualization platforms, compute/storage, and remote access solutions
- Configure and troubleshoot networking and TCP/IP (switching/routing basics, port activation, patching/cabling)
- Build, maintain, and update gold images for Linux and Windows systems; apply baseline configurations and hardening best practices
- Execute routine patching and system/tool updates, and assist with audit/readiness tasks
- Support security administration activities such as endpoint protection, malware detection, intrusion detection, and logging/auditing solutions
- Physically set up, cable, label, and power systems; implement required physical controls in secure spaces
- Execute approved procedures for sanitizing and releasing system components/media
- Maintain working knowledge of security policies, technical safeguards, and operational security measures
