Job summary

SMX is seeking a Linux System Administrator to support an embedded lab environment at NAS Patuxent River. The role provides hands-on support for hardware, OS, and applications while ensuring DoD security and configuration standards through patching, STIGs, backups, and scanning.

The ideal candidate has strong Linux expertise, scripting skills, and experience with Ansible automation, plus troubleshooting and collaborative problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• Secret clearance required with ability to obtain Top Secret.
• 3+ years of related experience in Linux system administration.
• On-site work at NAS Patuxent River (CWS eligible).
• Proficient in Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu/Solaris/CentOS) and shell scripting.
• Experience with Ansible and automation for compliance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide hardware support for deployed lab systems
• Install, configure, and support operating systems and application software
• Perform compliance tasks including STIG application, patching, backups, and vulnerability scanning
• Develop and maintain Linux scripts to support admin tasks
• Create Ansible playbooks to automate administrative and compliance activities
• Troubleshoot issues across hardware, OS, applications, and network connectivity
• Collaborate with other admins and engineers to keep lab systems secure and operational
