Job summary

GDIT is seeking a Systems Administrator Linux SME to support a long‑standing Prime contract on a high‑visibility, mission‑critical environment in Annapolis Junction, MD. You will lead Linux system administration, virtualization, and security in coordination with ISSO and software teams.

The role emphasizes automation, patch management, documentation, and collaboration with developers to maintain reliable, scalable Linux platforms across on‑prem and cloud elements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
• 10+ years of related experience.
• SME-level proficiency with Linux operating systems.
• Active TS/SCI with polygraph.
• US citizenship.
• Demonstrated experience with virtual machines, Thin Clients, switches, and networking responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, manage, and maintain Linux systems, including virtualization platforms and cloud computing environments.
• Determine network specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
• In coordination with the ISSO, implement security measures, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with customer security policies.
• Partner with software developers and IT stakeholders to support system integration, patch workflows, and maintenance activities.
• Develop and maintain scripts and automation tools that reduce manual effort and increase operational efficiency.
• Maintain systems with software updates, patches, and upgrades while validating functionality and compatibility.
• Create and update system documentation including configurations, processes, and procedures.

The likely salary range for this position is $170,000 - $230,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
