Job summary
General Dynamics Information Technology is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer in the USA NC Fort Liberty area to design, implement, and maintain complex server and application architectures. Candidates must hold a TS/SCI clearance and be eligible for US citizenship.
The role emphasizes security, scripting, and systems development across Linux platforms and modern automation tools. You will lead architecture discussions, mentor junior staff, and work on cutting-edge solutions to keep our mission

- Designs server and application architectures; performs administrative operation and maintenance functions of server hardware and software.
- Maintains system security and executes common practices and procedures; monitors usage statistics and logs; monitors and remedies attempt to penetrate or corrupt server files.
- Maintains baseline configurations and performs modification of configuration settings.
- Institutes troubleshooting and incident response procedures. Troubleshoots system related problems.
- Provides team leadership and guidance to less experienced administrators.
- Remains current in operating systems/software analysis and technological developments and applications.
- Recommends future direction or projects to management.
- Provides expertise and direction in the development or modification of software programs and applications to enhance an operating system.
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
5+ years of related experience
- 4-8 years’ experience as a Linux systems administrator
- Linux experience and certifications in RedHat Enterprise Linux
- RHEL 7 or later experience
- Security+ certification (DoD 8140 requirement)
- Experience with VMware ESXi/vCenter and virtualized systems (DRS, HA, vMotion, vDS, snapshots, DR strategies, lifecycle management)
- Experience with Slurpit, Nautobot, AWX, Netpicker, GitLab, or similar automation/configuration platforms
- Experience with NetApp ONTAP administration (SnapMirror, CIFS/NFS, volumes, SVMs, snapshots, quotas, connectivity, troubleshooting)
- Database experience with SQL/Postgres/Redis
- Coding or scripting experience (bash, Python, etc.)
- Excellent communication and briefing skills; shows tact, effective listening skills and follow-through
- Provides technical guidance and leadership to engineers with less experience
TS/SCI (Required)
- Detail oriented and organized; ensure accuracy of work
- Pursues ongoing education in technical topics
- Good business communication skills
- Python language experience and/or certification
- Windows System and server experience
- Containerization experience (K8s troubleshooting support, Docker)
- RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 (Ansible) experience or certification
- Network+
- Agile/DevOps/GitLab experience or certification
- Cisco Nexus 9000 Series administration experience

The likely salary range for this position is $101,546 - $126,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
