Job summary

Vultr is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to design, administer, and optimize Linux-based infrastructure supporting our global customer base and data center operations. The ideal candidate is technically driven, detail-oriented, and capable of independent judgment when diagnosing complex system issues.

You’ll work across systems, applications, and networking to maintain secure, reliable environments, contribute to infrastructure upgrades, and support platform expansion.

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency administering Linux systems (CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu).
  • Experience applying systems-level troubleshooting to resolve non-routine technical issues.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or similar.
  • Experience with virtualization, networking, or software development is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and supporting: Web servers, Databases and caching solutions, Firewalls.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Linux utilities, server/app architecture, security hardening, Ceph, virtualization, load balancing, and core networking.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and implement Linux system upgrades, enhancements, and infrastructure changes to support scalability and reliability.
  • Administer and maintain Linux servers and services, diagnosing performance, stability, or security issues.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point for Linux-related issues and remediation.
  • Partner with engineering and operations teams for data center deployments and readiness.
  • Perform application and system migrations, evaluating dependencies, risks, and execution approaches.
  • Monitor system performance and security posture; maintain compliance with standards.
  • Develop and maintain automation, scripts, and tooling to improve efficiency.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and diagrams for scaling.

Vultr is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to design, administer, and optimize Linux-based infrastructure supporting our global customer base and data center operations. The ideal candidate is technically driven, detail-oriented, and capable of exercising independent judgment when diagnosing complex system issues and implementing scalable solutions.

In this role, you will work across systems, applications, and networking layers to maintain secure, reliable environments, contribute to infrastructure upgrades, and support platform expansion. You’ll collaborate with engineering, operations, and data center teams while applying advanced Linux administration expertise to solve non-routine technical challenges. This is your opportunity to strengthen Vultr’s infrastructure and grow your systems engineering capabilities in a high-growth cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, and implement Linux system upgrades, enhancements, and infrastructure changes to support scalability and reliability

  • Administer and maintain Linux servers and services, applying systems analysis to diagnose and resolve complex performance, stability, or security issues

  • Serve as a technical escalation point for Linux-related issues, analyzing root cause and determining appropriate remediation strategies

  • Partner with engineering and operations teams to design and support new data center deployments, including system configuration and application readiness

  • Perform application and system migrations, evaluating dependencies, risks, and optimal execution approaches

  • Monitor system performance and security posture, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions to maintain compliance with security standards

  • Develop and maintain automation, scripts, and tooling to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, and operational standards to support consistent administration and future scaling

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align systems administration efforts with platform reliability, scalability, and business objectives

Qualifications

Compensation

$60,000 - $75,000

Final compensation will vary depending on years of experience, background/skill set, location, and applicable laws.
