Bloom Energy is looking for a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team in San Jose, CA. This fully on‑site, in‑office role reports to the CSO.
Responsibilities
- Ensures records of system downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained.
- Applies revisions to host system firmware and software.
- Works with vendors to assist support activities.
- Maintains Linux server operating systems.
- Maintains and monitors server and network environment with Nagios.
- Serves as a resource for the Network Systems Administrator in managing physical VMware infrastructure.
- Maintains Nagios environment by adding and removing hosts, increasing functionality to support a fast‑growth environment.
- Develops automation scripts for consistency and supportability across multiple environments.
- Plans and executes timely Linux system upgrades and supported software patches.
- Plans, installs and configures Linux systems.
- Provides support for new applications and upgrades to existing systems.
- Designs solutions to technical problems and implements new systems or infrastructure changes.
- Monitors critical systems and takes corrective actions prior to failures.
- Prepares for disaster recovery and ensures appropriate backups are completed and tested.
- Troubleshoots software and hardware failures and identifies network problems.
- Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls.
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication & collaboration skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize workload.
- Effective time‑management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- At least 5 years’ experience managing and maintaining a production Linux (CentOS, RedHat) environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing Linux‑based systems and OS‑related services at scale.
- Familiarity with Windows Server and administering Active Directory.
- Advanced knowledge of security trends and best practices; experience hardening high‑value systems against attackers.
- Demonstrated expertise using automated configuration management systems such as Docker and Git repositories.
- Extended experience working effectively in a shared software development environment, including version control, bug tracking, release management, and code review.
- Extended experience with Shell scripting, Perl, Python, and/or PHP.
- Proven ability to lead and work on large/complex system deployment projects in a team environment, developing plans to meet computing needs.
- Experience in SAN multipathing software.
- Experience in VMware virtualization.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary ranges: $134,500.00 – $193,500.00. The total compensation includes standard company benefits, a 401(k) retirement plan with company match, and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
