Job description

Overview

GovCIO is hiring a Windows and Linux System Administrator (Senior) to support Veterans Affairs operational needs. The role requires experience in AWS, Windows, and Linux administration, along with strong database management skills to maintain infrastructure, ensure system security, and optimize performance. This position is fully remote within the United States.

Responsibilities

• Plan the transition of development and/or production environments to new technologies.
• Ensure data integrity and facilitate electronic health record modernization.
• Establish and maintain smooth operation of computer systems, including operating systems, software, and hardware, in both networked and stand-alone configurations.
• Consult with support teams, help desks, customers, and other technical staff to resolve technical issues.
• Coordinate and perform operational and maintenance activities for networks and servers.
• Identify recurring problems and recommend solutions to minimize impact and frequency.
• Ensure system integrity and perform upgrades to systems and/or servers as required.
• Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, with 12+ years of relevant experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Windows and Linux system administration.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Experience with RHEL 6, 7, and 8
• Knowledge of RAID and Volume Shadow Copy Service
• AWS certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect)
• Experience with Jenkins, Gitlab, SonarQube, Jira, Confluence, LDAP, openLDAP, Tomcat 7, OpenShift, VMWare 6.5
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

Clearance Required: Ability to obtain and maintain a suitability/Public Trust clearance.
