Job summary

Visual Soft, Inc in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Senior Linux System Administrator (AWS) with an Active TS clearance to support a federal defense program onsite.

The role requires 8+ years of Linux administration (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu) and strong AWS experience, with IaC using Ansible, Terraform or CloudFormation. You will ensure secure, highly available cloud environments aligned with DoD standards and collaborate with cybersecurity and DevSecOps teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of hands-on Linux system administration experience (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
• Proven AWS cloud infra experience (VPC, EC2, EBS, S3, IAM, CloudFormation, CloudWatch).
• Strong troubleshooting of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, load balancers).
• CI/CD tooling experience (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline).
• Security hardening knowledge (STIGs, CIS benchmarks) and RMF controls.
• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain AWS infrastructure (VPC, EC2, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, RDS, EFS).

• Patch and harden Linux systems to meet DISA STIG and RMF compliance.

• Support and integrate CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux System Administrator with proven expertise in AWS cloud environments to support mission-critical systems within a classified defense program.

This position is fully onsite in Huntsville, AL, supporting a federal intel agency.

The ideal candidate has deep experience managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or similar distributions, implementing automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions, and maintaining high-availability, secure cloud environments in compliance with DoD security standards.

Desired Certifications such as:

• Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS).
• Experience with AWS GovCloud or classified AWS regions.
• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
• Security+, CISSP, or equivalent DoD 8570 certification.
• Exposure to monitoring tools (Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios).
