Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Client Platform Engineer to design and operate scalable Linux fleet infrastructure, integrating GitOps, automation, and security to reduce friction for employees.

You will own end‑to‑end provisioning, deployment, and incident response across Azure, AWS, and GCP, ensuring compliant configurations and reliable fleet software for a global team. Collaborate with IT, Security, and Research to ship secure tooling that scales.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python, Go, or another modern programming language.
• Deep experience securing and managing Linux fleets with configuration management, MDM, device enrollment, policy enforcement, and cloud identity integration.
• Demonstrated success with open-source endpoint tools for configuration, device and application management, and telemetry.
• Experience delivering secure, reliable, scalable systems across different compliance requirements.
• Deep experience managing infrastructure at scale with IaC and GitOps, using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Chef.
• Experience integrating and operating fleet infrastructure with CI/CD and DevOps workflows.
• A track record of deploying and operating fleet infrastructure in public cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP).
• Initiative, analytical judgment, and the ability to turn problems into practical improvements.

Responsibilities

• Own secure Linux endpoint management systems across envs with varying compliance.
• Build agentic workflows with OpenAI products using fleet telemetry to anticipate issues and guide remediation.
• Make new hires productive from day one using OpenAI products to simplify device setup and onboarding support.
• Build secure, reliable workflows with scoped access, human review for sensitive changes, and tested recovery.
• Partner with IT, Security, Research, and Engineering to deliver Linux provisioning, updates, and support alongside macOS and Windows.
• Develop first‑party software and integrate tools for packaging, deployment, and application management.
• Manage fleet configuration as code through GitOps, version control, peer review, and automated validation.
• Build and operate CI/CD pipelines for fleet infrastructure across Azure, AWS, and GCP with staged deployments and rollback testing.
• Use fleet telemetry to proactively improve performance, detect drift, and verify deployment outcomes.
• Participate in engineering on‑call, own incident resolution, and turn lessons into lasting improvements.
