Job summary

Insight Global is seeking a Linux Engineer to join a federal team in Norfolk, VA. The role covers server administration, security, backups, and system upgrades across physical and virtual environments.

The position requires hands-on Red Hat Linux experience, AD management, and containerization knowledge (Kubernetes or Docker). A Security+ certification must be obtained within 90 days.

Qualifications

• 4–6 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's in related field; 2–4 years with a Master's; or 8–10 years with a HS diploma.
• Hands-on server administration with Red Hat Linux.
• Familiar with containerization - Kubernetes or Docker.
• Security+ certification must be obtained within 90 days

Responsibilities

• Manage, configure, and maintain servers, storage, and related IT infrastructure across physical and virtual environments.
• Implement security best practices, including user access controls, data encryption, patch management, and firewall configurations.
• Develop and maintain backup solutions for critical systems and data.
• Act as a key point of contact for technical support requests, diagnosing and resolving complex hardware and software issues.
• Participate in IT deployments, upgrades, and migrations.
• Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators.
• Monitor, maintain, and support servers, workstations, and network devices.
• Install and configure operating systems and application software on servers and GFE.
• Provide technical support to end users for hardware, software, and networking issues.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies in Active Directory.
• Apply software patches and perform regular system updates.
• Assist with system backups and disaster recovery testing.
• Maintain documentation for systems, processes, and procedures.
• Collaborate with other IT team members on projects and upgrades.
• Escalate complex issues to senior administrators as needed.
• Maintain security and privacy of the information systems.

Required Skills & Experience
