Job summary

SFE in Irvine, CA is seeking a Linux Administrator to join a full-time onsite team. The role focuses on migrating and operating Unix/Linux servers in a large enterprise, with hands-on duties spanning RHEL provisioning, patching, security hardening and performance tuning.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of Unix/Linux administration experience, with 2–3 years on AWS.
  • Strong experience with RHEL 7/8/9, OS installation, patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with OS hardening, security baselines, and access controls.
  • Experience supporting Java and .NET applications.
  • Experience migrating on-prem to cloud; familiarity with AWS services (EC2, EBS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch).
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines impacting OS-level operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead migration of Unix/Linux servers from on premises data centers to AWS EC2.
  • Provision, configure, patch and upgrade AWS-hosted instances.
  • Implement OS hardening and security controls across environments.
  • Support deployments and troubleshoot OS issues for Java and .NET workloads.
  • Coordinate with cloud, database and middleware teams during migration and cutover activities.
  • Ensure system availability, performance and stability during migration and steady-state operations.
  • Automate routine administration tasks using scripting and configuration best practices.
  • Maintain system documentation, runbooks and operational procedures.

Job Description
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience administering Unix/Linux systems, primarily RHEL 7, RHEL 8 and RHEL 9.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux OS installation, configuration, patching, upgrades and lifecycle management.
  • Proven experience in OS hardening, security baselines, user management and access controls.
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications running on Java and .NET platforms.
  • Exposure to Data Center Exit or on premises to public cloud migration programs.
  • Good understanding of system performance tuning, troubleshooting and capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of scripting (Shell, Bash) for automation and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to work with database, middleware (TIBCO) and infrastructure teams.
  • 7+ years of overall Unix/Linux administration experience with at least 2 3 years on AWS.
  • Hands-on experience running Linux workloads on AWS EC2.
  • Understanding of AWS services such as EC2, EBS, VPC, IAM and CloudWatch.
  • Experience supporting hybrid environments during transition from on premises to cloud.
  • Familiarity with automation, Infrastructure as Code or configuration management tools is an advantage.
  • Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines impacting OS-level operations.
  • Experience working in large, mission-critical enterprise migration programs.
  • AWS or Linux certifications are preferred.
