POSITION SUMMARY:
This incumbent provides routine patient care to promote patient comfort and contributes to the overall patient plan of care. This position is responsible for ongoing patient data collection and documentation in the medical records. The position also performs support functions that contribute to the efficient operation of the nursing unit/department.
CORE FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with daily living activities and completes necessary tasks to promote patient health, including assisting patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
- Collects patient specimens and data, including vital signs, input/output, and other delegated measurements. Documents objective data and assists in transportation of specimens.
- Recognizes and reports abnormalities or changes in patient health status to a licensed professional. Communicates patient status accurately to ensure continuity of care.
- Performs procedures and uses equipment as delegated by a licensed professional, such as blood draws, Foley catheter removal, IV removal, EKGs, and administrative duties, under supervision.
- Performs receptionist/clerical duties to support department operations and communication flow. Resolves customer issues or escalates as needed.
- Maintains supplies and monitors equipment, ensuring all are in working order and accounted for.
- Assists with patient transportation, including pre- and post-operative transfers, and participates in room turnover.
- Supports a fast-paced environment with a focus on customer service, interacting effectively with staff, patients, families, and physicians.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Current BLS certification.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and human relations skills.
- Computer literacy and keyboarding skills required; advanced skills excluded in California.
- 12 months Banner experience in the role for BSS team members.
Additional requirements vary by employment setting, including fingerprint clearance and background checks.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Recent healthcare experience preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
