Job Summary/Purpose
Ability to perform all aspects of the Lineworker job function including maintaining and building overhead and underground electrical facilities. Responsible for various levels of learning, performing, and/or leading other lineworkers, material maintenance, and aerial/underground work. Work with a Live Safe mindset in all tasks and mitigate identified hazards.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Lineworker II
- Ability to perform overhead tasks, including energized primary cover up to 34,500 volts.
- Ability to understand transformer theories including bank installations, tap settings, and identifying and constructing multiple secondary voltage applications.
- Ability to learn and perform simple primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts) tasks and applications.
- Ability to lift, rig and tie knots to set up, construct, frame poles, and change out cross-arms, identifying materials and understanding distribution construction specifications.
Lineworker III
- Ability to perform all tasks included in Helper through Lineworker II.
- Ability to build and maintain underground residential distribution circuits, including but not limited to, prepare/operate pad mount switchgear, install and troubleshoot URD circuits and switching/tagging URD primary cable.
- Ability to learn three phase primary tasks to include safe operation and removal/installation of single and three phase reclosers, changing out insulators, and installing and replacing Gang Operated Airbrake Switches (GOABs).
Lineworker Sr
- Ability to perform all tasks including in Helper through Lineworker III.
- Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, including indirect crew leadership.
- Ability to learn and perform advanced primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts) tasks and applications.
- Ability to perform advanced Lineworker tasks on regulators, capacitor banks, alternate switching scheme, and interripper devices.
All Levels Must Be Able To Perform The Following
- Maintain a well‑organized jobsite to ensure safety.
- Complete all mandated training, such as First Aid, CPR, etc.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum Education Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Experience Required
- 6 months – 4 years of experience in a distribution field.
- Preferred: 2 years of direct distribution linework experience.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Use physical strength to perform required tasks in all weather conditions.
- Work irregular hours and out‑of‑town assignments as required.
- Take and understand directives and complete tasks with limited supervision.
- Plan and lay out all work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Assume a lead role and direct the work of other linemen.
- Climb and work off poles of various heights.
- Walk on all types of terrain.
Certificates, Licenses, Etc.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have, and maintain, a Class‑A CDL or obtain one within 6 months of employment.
- Preferred: valid Class‑A CDL.
