Job summary

Gibson Area Hospital is seeking a Laundry Worker to handle linen from pickup to delivery, ensuring cleanliness and proper care of all textiles used in patient care and facility services.

This full-time role requires physical stamina, the ability to lift heavy loads, and strict adherence to safety and infection-control practices. You will operate washing, folding, and flat ironer equipment, document loads, and report to the Laundry Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Prefer a high school graduate or equivalent.
• Must have good hand, eye dexterity in order to use mangle and accomplish linen folds.
• Infection exposure risk level: Category I – Maximal Risk – Hepatitis B vaccine recommended.

Responsibilities

• Collects soiled linen from laundry chutes and pre-sorts linen.
• Delivers linen to assigned areas and returns empty carts.
• Inspects linen for wear, tears, and stains.
• Keeps machinery and area in a clean and neat condition.
• Loads linen carts and records the weight of the carts.
• Washes and dries linen.
• Folds linen and uses a flat ironer.
• Performs other tasks which may be assigned.

HOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS: Full-time position - 40 hours weekly. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 7am – 3 pm & Saturday 5:30 am – 2:00 pm.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The laundry worker picks up linen from chute areas, pre-sorts linens, washes linen, folds linen, processes linen, uses flat ironer, weighs linen, records loads, and delivers linen to proper stations. Also all old, badly stained or ripped linen should be discarded.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• 1. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, kneel, and push carts.
• 2. Physical strength to perform the following lifting demands:
• Floor to waist - 30 pounds
• 14” to waist -30 pounds
• Waist to shoulder - 20 pounds
• Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds
• Carry 30 pounds for 15 feet
• Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
• Pull 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
• 3. Must be able to work in heat for short periods of time.

Reports to the Laundry Supervisor.

INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL

• 2. Must be able to tolerate moderate to heavy lifting.
• 3. This job has repetitive motion throughout the day.
