Job Summary:
The A-Lineman is a working position that safely performs skilled electrical work in the construction, maintenance and operation of underground and overhead electrical distribution or transmission systems and may occasionally supervise other positions. The work involves the performance of skilled tasks in accordance with standard trade practices. The lineman-A monitors work to ensure supervised operations are conducted in a safe, efficient and effective manner according to the required standards. Work conditions include exposure to many adverse elements of weather plus hazards of working around energized lines and apparatus.

Responsibilities
All Experienced A-Linemen will be expected to perform the following functions:
- Adhereto safety practices and procedures, such as checking equipment regularlyand erecting barriers around work areas.
- Openswitches or attach grounding devices to remove electrical hazards fromdisturbed or fallen lines or to facilitate repairs.
- Climbpoles or use truck-mounted buckets to access equipment.
- Placeinsulating or fireproofing materials over conductors and joints.
- Safelyconstruct, maintain, and repair electrical overhead and undergrounddistribution systems and substations, including conduits, cables, wires,and related equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, andswitches.
- Identifydefective sectionalizing devices, circuit breakers, fuses, voltage regulators, transformers, switches, relays, or wiring, using wiring diagrams and electrical-testing instruments.
- Drivevehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites.
- Coordinatework assignment preparation and completion with other workers.
- Inspectand test power lines and auxiliary equipment to locate and identifyproblems, using reading and testing instruments.
- Stringwire conductors and cables between poles, towers, trenches, pylons, andbuildings, setting lines in place and using winches to adjust tension.
- Testconductors, according to electrical diagrams and specifications, toidentify corresponding conductors and to prevent incorrect connections.
- Replace or straighten damaged poles.
- Attachcross-arms, insulators, and auxiliary equipment to poles prior to installingthem.
- Travelin trucks, helicopters, airplanes, boats or air boats, to inspect linesfor freedom from obstruction and adequacy of insulation.
- Digholes, using augers, and set poles, using cranes and power equipment.
- Spliceor solder cables together or to overhead transmission lines, customerservice lines, or street light lines, using hand tools, epoxies, orspecialized equipment.
- Cutand peel lead sheathing and insulation from defective or newly installedcables and conduits prior to splicing.
- Clean,tin, and splice corresponding conductors by twisting ends together or byjoining ends with metal clamps and soldering connections.
- Pullup cable by hand from large reels mounted on trucks.
- Layunderground cable directly in trenches, or string it through conduitrunning through the trenches.
- Cuttrenches for laying underground cables, using trenchers and cable plows.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- A minimum of 4 years’ directlyrelated experience.
- Available to work irregular hoursand travel at a moment’s notice, anytime
- Possess at minimum a valid CDL-B license
- Possess your own tools
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
- Ability to read and followinstructions
- Ability to handle physicallydemanding construction duties in harsh weather conditions
- Ability to hear long distances
- Ability to see long distances anddifferentiate between colors, have clear depth perception, and peripheral vision ability
- Ability to work withoutsupervision
- Ability to communicate well withothers
Desired Skills and Experience:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
- Completion of a Lineman training school preferred
