Job summary

The Ohio State University’s James Cancer Hospital/BioMedical Clinical Engineering team seeks a Linear Accelerator Engineer to install, commission, and maintain linear accelerators, simulators, and treatment-planning imaging systems.

You will collaborate with medical physicists, provide preventive maintenance, troubleshoot complex equipment, and support patient care across the Medical Center with 40-hour weeks and on‑call rotation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or equivalent
  • CBET or CRES certification preferred
  • Manufacturer's training on linear accelerators and 2 years experience in technical support
  • Knowledge of radiation oncology procedures and treatment modalities
  • Strong electronics, digital circuitry, microprocessors and network technology
  • Strong anatomy, physiology, physics and chemistry knowledge
  • Excellent computer skills and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Install, verify, and maintain multiple modalities of radiation oncology systems (linear accelerators, simulators, imaging)
  • Collaborate with medical physicists on treatment planning systems
  • Provide 24x7 on‑call coverage and on-site support
  • Write specifications and support ongoing equipment life-cycle management

This includes all aspects of the medical equipment life cycle: pre-purchase assessment, acquisition, installation and performance verification, and routine maintenance and repair. The Clinical Engineering department works with the clinical staff to write specifications for new equipment and to determine the most efficient and cost effective approach for ongoing technical support (in-house support, external contract or a combination of both). The Clinical Engineering department is responsible for the technical support of all patient care equipment and high technology systems. Clinical Engineering provides 24 x 7 on call coverage for emergency support of all medical equipment and systems.**POSITION SUMMARY** This position is responsible for the assessment, installation, performance verification, maintenance and support of multiple modalities of radiation oncology treatment systems including linear accelerators, simulators and treatment planning imaging systems. Collaborates with medical physicist in support of treatment planning systems and multiple therapeutic modalities.**Minimum Qualifications** Bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology or equivalent technical training. CBET or CRES certification is preferred. Manufacturer's training on linear accelerators and 2 years experience of technical support for linear accelerators. Knowledge of radiation oncology procedures and treatment modalities. Superior knowledge of electronics, digital circuitry, microprocessors and network technology. Superior knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physics and chemistry. Superior computer skills.
