Summary
Place, move, rearrange, replace, connect, disconnect, transfer, maintain, reroute, and remove aerial and underground plants, including service drops, house cables, and building terminals. Operate company vehicle as required. Perform such work under minimum supervision.
General Duties
- Use heavy‑duty power equipment such as power dolly, power saws, power winch, and hand tools in the installation and maintenance of outside plant facilities.
- Handle and climb ladders and poles, work at heights in boom trucks, and enter tunnels, buildings, trenches, crawl spaces, or manholes to place materials.
- Attach or detach hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
- Use test equipment to check for gas in manholes and empty water and other debris from manholes.
- Dismantle, move or remove aerial, underground or building wire, cable, associated equipment and hardware.
- Load required tools and materials on boom trucks, center mounts, companion trucks, and pick‑ups and drive to work location.
- Read and interpret cut sheets and work order prints to complete work assignments.
- Keep detailed written records of work activity.
- Perform frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting of moderate to heavy weight objects throughout the workday.
- May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the company.
Basic Qualifications
- Tests – Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the company, in accordance with company policy.
- Experience – Management will designate the experience level required for each vacancy.
- First consideration: in the last ten years successfully held the position of Line Worker, OSP Construction Installer/Splicer, Plant Construction Installer, or possess equivalent experience.
- Second consideration: in the last ten years successfully held the position of Cable Splicer, Communications Specialist, Customer Service Technician I‑III, Fiber Network Field Technician, Internal Communications Technician, Public Access Sales Technician, Collector/Maintainer, Public Communications Field Technician, Senior Communications Specialist, or Special Equipment Installer, or possess equivalent experience.
- Third consideration: in the last ten years successfully held the position of Buried Service Wire Technician, Equipment Maintainer, Equipment Installer, Frame Worker, or Frame Maintainer, or possess equivalent experience.
- Must possess, at the time of appointment, a valid California class "C" driver's license. If required at the assigned job site, proficiency in operating a vehicle equipped with a standard manual transmission is required. Individuals will be required to obtain a valid California Class "A" driver's license after appointment to meet vehicle or equipment operation requirements. Class "A" drivers will be subject to random drug tests in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Legally required Criminal Records Check – Employees will be required to be fingerprinted and pass the Department of Justice criminal records screening process. Continuous monitoring of the employee's criminal record will be conducted while employed.
- Must possess the ability to perceive differences in colors.
- Must possess the ability to distinguish audible tones and levels.
