Job summary

Sunflower Electric Power Corporation in Great Bend, KS is seeking a motivated Line Technician Apprentice I – Journey to gain hands-on experience inspecting, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage transmission lines and substations. You will work with seasoned Line Technicians, learning climbing, pole setting, equipment operation, and critical power infrastructure maintenance.

A strong work ethic and willingness to learn are essential; must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of employment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Completion of a recognized Line Technician Program is strongly preferred.
• Experience with electric distribution lines, transmission lines, or substation construction is strongly preferred.
• Successful completion of the CAST Test.

Job description

We are looking for a motivated individual with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a desire to build a rewarding career in the electric utility industry!Join our crew as a Line Technician Apprentice I – Journey in Great Bend, KS;get hands-on experience inspecting, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage transmission lines and substations while working alongside experienced Line Technicians. Build valuable skills in everything from climbing structures and setting poles to operating equipment, installing electrical components, and maintaining critical power infrastructure. When emergencies arise, you’ll be part of the team helping restore reliable service—sometimes in challenging weather and after hours. Qualifications

• High School Diploma.
• Completion of a recognized Line Technician Program is strongly preferred.
• Experience with electric distribution lines, transmission lines, or substation construction is strongly preferred.
• Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades Selection System (CAST) Test.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A Manual Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of employment.

We administer selection tests for a variety of positions. The required tests have been developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), a trade association of investor-owned electric utility companies. We strongly encourage candidates to review all the information, including the sample test brochures, and to use the available practice tests before taking the actual tests, available here:

EEI Practice Tests

Practice tests provide sample questions and detailed discussions of the correct answers. It's important to take the practice test as you would the actual one, with similar intensity and concentration. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.

Note: EEI does not allow access to the actual tests. Testing sessions are held at various locations.
