Job summary

East Central Energy in Milaca, MN is seeking a Line Technician to join our Operations team. You’ll build, maintain overhead and underground distribution lines, respond to outages, troubleshoot system issues, and support the safe, reliable delivery of electricity to our members.

You’ll work alongside a skilled team committed to safety and teamwork. Qualified candidates from apprentice through journeyman levels are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and four years of electrical line experience or completion of an electrical lineworker program.
  • Apprenticeship stages encouraged; candidates at any stage may apply.
  • Valid Class A CDL for interstate commerce, DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification, and CPR Certification.
  • Journeyman Lineman Certification for journeyworker applicants; accredited lineworker program for apprentices.

Responsibilities

  • Line construction and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines and equipment.
  • Respond to outages, perform repairs, and replace damaged equipment as needed.
  • Install, operate, and maintain transformers, meters, regulators, circuit breakers, lighting, and other devices.
  • Follow safety requirements and standards (ECE, RUS, NESC) and participate in training.

A Day in the Life

In this role, you’ll help build, maintain, and restore the electrical distribution system to ensure safe, reliable service for our members.

  • Line construction and maintenance: Constructs and maintains overhead and underground electric distribution lines and associated equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and repairs: Responds to outage and trouble calls, makes repairs, and replaces damaged or defective equipment as needed.
  • System support: Installs, operates, and maintains transformers, meters, regulators, circuit breakers, lighting equipment, and other line devices.
  • Safety and compliance: Supports ECE’s safety culture by following safety requirements, attending training, and performing work in accordance with ECE, RUS, and NESC standards.
What You’ll Need

You’ll bring linework experience, technical expertise and strong commitment to safety and teamwork.

  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and either a minimum of four years of electrical line experience or completion of an electrical lineworker program. Candidates at any stage of a recognized lineworker apprenticeship are encouraged to apply.
  • Credentials: Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License for interstate commerce, DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification, and CPR Certification. Journeyworker applicants must hold a Journeyman Lineman Certification. Apprentice applicants must have completed an accredited electrical lineworker program.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of power line construction and maintenance, along with ECE, RUS, and NESC standards. Skilled in reading and interpreting staking sheets and working safely in the field. Clear communication, effective time management, and a team-focused approach to getting the work done right.
Additional Details
  • Schedule: Onsite, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Milaca Operations Center located in Milaca, MN.
  • Service Area Requirement: To support operational and emergency response needs, employees in this role are required to reside within a 20-mile radius of Milaca, MN.
  • Hybrid Option: This position does not offer a hybrid work arrangement.
