Job summary

Estes-Express-Lines in Emigsville, PA seeks a Operations Manager to lead the Linehaul team, set targets, coach staff and ensure safe, efficient LTL operations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Prior management, dispatch and dock experience in LTL trucking.
  • Knowledge of LTL industry and paperwork flow preferred.
  • Must know the local metropolitan area.
  • Strong leadership: hire, coach, counsel, train, mentor, terminate.
  • Team-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening communication.
  • Excellent planning and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead drivers and staff, set targets, monitor performance, provide coaching and development.
  • Ensure an efficient, safe LTL operation including dock planning and schedules.
  • Enforce policy compliance and safety rules and gov regulations.
  • Participate in hiring and termination processes.
  • Administer and execute Service Center business plan per manager guidance.
  • Meet KPIs and drive efficient operations of linehaul functions.
  • Coordinate with drivers to resolve load/customer issues promptly.
  • Analyze vehicle and driver assignments and optimize schedules.
  • Revise driver schedules to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Direct delivery timetables and ensure proper paperwork handling.
  • Oversee equipment assignment and accountability; trailers and tractors.
  • Communicate with customers via phone, fax or email.
  • Maintain regular attendance and perform other duties as needed.

Job Summary:
  • Report to Operations Manager / Assistant Service Center Manager and/or Service Center Manager
  • Lead, guide and direct drivers and other employees as needed to include setting targets, monitoring performance, providing coaching, counseling and development. Accountable for the management of an efficient, clean and safe LTL operation to include dock planning and set up schedules
  • Enforce understanding and compliance with all Company policies and procedures, safety rules and government regulations
  • Involved in and makes recommendations in the hiring and termination processes
  • Administer and carry out assigned portions of the Service Center Business plan as set forth by the Service Center Manager
  • Responsible for meeting all KPI’s assigned
  • Develop and implement procedures for efficient operations of Service Center Linehaul functions
  • Ensure drivers are coordinated timely and efficiently
  • Work with drivers to resolve any load/customer problems
  • Conduct continuous analysis and direction of vehicles and driver assignments and analyze and implement scheduling for possible consolidation
  • Review and revise driver schedules to increase efficiencies and to lower cost
  • Direct compilation and issuance of delivery timetables
  • Responsible for and ensures paperwork associated with the line haul operation is handled timely & properly
  • Responsible for and directs equipment assignment & accountability; trailers & tractors
  • Responsible for proper communication to customers via; phone, fax or email
  • Regular attendance is required.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Bachelor Degree preferred
  • Prior management, dispatch and dock experience required, preferably in LTL trucking industry
  • Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry, including basic paperwork flow preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable of local metropolitan area
  • Must have strong leadership skills including the ability to hire, coach, counsel, train, mentor and terminate employees.
