Job summary

Covenant Woods is seeking a part-time Line Cook for Healthcare Manor East to prepare and present meals, follow resident dietary needs, and maintain a clean, safe kitchen. You will operate and maintain kitchen equipment in alignment with Covenant Woods standards and safety requirements.

Shifts are 6:30am-3pm or 3:30pm-7:30pm, with 16–20 hours weekly. A focus on quality, sanitation, and resident satisfaction is essential, along with commitment to Covenant Woods Code of Conduct and Promise values.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year experience cooking in healthcare, senior living, restaurant, hospitality, or institutional food service.
• ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 60 days is preferred.

PART-TIME OPPORTUNITY

Pay Range: $16.41–$20.77 per hour, based on years of experience

JOB SUMMARY

The Line cook for Healthcare Manor East is responsible for the daily preparation and presentation of all foods, including the proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment and the safety and sanitation of the kitchen and food storage locations. The Cook ensures meals are prepared according to resident preferences, therapeutic diets, and Covenant Woods standards while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. Embraces and models Covenant Woods business standards, Code of Conduct, and focuses on the Promise in all aspects of delivery of service.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepares food according to resident preferences and diet orders including mechanical soft and puree.


• Follows all food safety procedures, including proper hand-washing techniques, hair restraints, prevention of cross-contamination, and proper cooking temperatures.


• Stocks all necessary food products and supplies before the beginning of meal service.


• Reads and prepares meal orders promptly while maintaining established service standards and ticket times.


• Cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, induction equipment, countertops, and food preparation surfaces.


• Ensures all food products are properly labeled, dated, stored, and rotated according to Covenant Woods policies and Virginia Department of Health regulations.


• Monitors kitchen equipment and communicates maintenance and repair needs to management.


• Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and food preparation equipment following meal service.


• Cleans kitchen floors and completes assigned closing duties at the end of each shift.


• Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment.


• Assists with special events, catering functions, inventory activities, and other duties as assigned.


• Perform any additional duties as assigned to support departmental operations and resident satisfaction.

Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year experience cooking experience in healthcare, senior living, restaurant, hospitality, or institutional food service.


• ServSafe® certification or the ability to obtain certification within 60 days, paid for by Covenant Woods.

Preferred

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.


• Experience in a Continuing Care and Retirement Community (CCRC) or Healthcare setting is highly desirable.
