Job description

LINE COOK JOB DESCRIPTION

Cooks are responsible for delivering food that is not only delicious and cooked to the specifications of the customer but is also safe and fresh. Line Cook responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Ensure ingredients and final products are fresh
  2. Follow recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients
  3. Bake, grill, steam, and boil meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods
  4. Present, garnish, and arrange final dishes
  5. Maintain a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes
  6. Handle and store ingredients and food properly
  7. Maintain food safety and sanitation standards
COOK SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Cooks must possess the following qualities and skills:

  • Knowledge of safety procedures, including safe temperatures for storing and preparing ingredients to prevent foodborne illness
  • Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate on complex dishes
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with waitstaff, dishwashers, management, and customers
  • Calm demeanor to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
  • Accountability for the dishes they prepare, ensuring they meet management and customer expectations
  • Organization and comprehension skills to follow orders and recipes accurately
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling tools and techniques such as chopping, slicing, and dicing
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, handle extreme heat, and work shifts
  • Current Food Handlers Card or ServSafe Certificate
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

A minimum of 6 months experience as a prep cook or line cook in a fast-paced, fast-casual, or full-service restaurant is required.
