Job summary

The Kimpton Era is seeking a Line Cook to join the team behind four bespoke restaurant and bar concepts. You will be responsible for preparing high-quality dishes promptly, under culinary leadership, contributing to a positive dining experience for guests.

You will work with a diverse team, applying a range of cooking techniques and maintaining strict food safety standards in a fast-paced environment. The role requires flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a line cook or similar role in a restaurant setting.
  • Culinary school or relevant culinary training is a plus.
  • Knowledge of cooking techniques, kitchen equipment and knife skills.
  • Attention to detail and precision in food preparation.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen and stand for long periods.
  • Understanding of food safety and health regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the preparation of menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards.
  • Handle raw ingredients with proper cleaning, cutting and marinating techniques.
  • Maintain sanitation and an organized workspace following safety guidelines.
  • Use grilling, sautéing, frying, roasting and baking methods to achieve desired flavors.
  • Monitor cooking temperatures to ensure consistency and safety.
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, grills and fryers.
  • Understand the restaurant's menu details and preparation methods.
  • Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure timely order preparation and delivery.
  • Manage multiple orders while maintaining quality and service pace.
  • Communicate with team and management about orders, requests, and inventory.

****Join the team behind four bespoke, destination restaurant and bar concepts at the Kimpton Era: Amasa, a street-level Latin Restaurant & Taqueria; Bar Rocco, an upscale NY Brasserie; The Parlor, an all-day coffee and cocktail lounge; and The Jade Rabbit, an Asian izakaya with 360-degree views of Rockefeller Center and Radio City

Summary: The Line Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality dishes in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring that the kitchen operates smoothly and meets the culinary standards set by the restaurant. Working under the direction of the culinary management team, you play a crucial role in contributing to a positive dining experience for guests.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the preparation of menu items according to established recipes, portion sizes, and presentation standards.
  • Handle and process raw ingredients, ensuring proper cleaning, cutting, and marinating techniques are employed.
  • Adhere to food safety and hygiene guidelines, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Utilize various cooking methods such as grilling, sautéing, frying, roasting, and baking to achieve desired flavors and textures.
  • Monitor and regulate cooking temperatures to ensure consistency and food safety.
  • Exhibit proficiency in handling kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, grills, and fryers.
  • Acquire a thorough understanding of the restaurant's menu, including ingredient details and preparation methods.
  • Coordinate with other kitchen staff to ensure the timely preparation and delivery of orders.
  • Manage multiple orders simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet service deadlines without compromising food quality.
  • Maintain open communication with kitchen staff, servers, and management to relay order details, special requests, and inventory needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to create a positive and productive work environment.
  • Conduct regular taste tests to ensure that all dishes meet the restaurant's standards for flavor, seasoning, and presentation.
  • Report any inconsistencies or quality issues to the chef or kitchen supervisor.
  • Follow sanitation procedures and guidelines to maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Assist with cleaning duties, including dishwashing, equipment cleaning, and storage organization.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in handling different stations within the kitchen as needed.
  • Adapt to changes in the menu, kitchen procedures, or staffing requirements.
  • Previous experience as a line cook or similar role in a restaurant setting.
  • Culinary school or relevant culinary training is a plus.
  • Knowledge of various cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and knife skills.
