Responsibilities

Job Summary
The Teacher‑Lead is responsible for the overall management of the classroom. Coordinates the care and education of young children by planning and implementing a program that meets the standards of the Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and other regulatory agencies such as Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) and Maricopa County Health Department (MCHD) for a specific age group. Maintains and utilizes equipment and materials in all outdoor and indoor learning center activities. Provides guidance and supervision for Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Interns, and Volunteers. Supports parents by establishing a partnership of mutual concern and respect for each child.

Essential Functions

• Plans and implements curriculum to meet the criteria of NAEYC. Evaluates the individual abilities and developmental needs of children; communicates effectively with children and parents and addresses ways to support transitions between home and center. Conducts daily observations to ensure that each child is observed weekly, documented via anecdotal and developmental checklists. Completes communication notes daily for each child and presents them to parents. Uses classroom journal to document relevant information to classroom staff. Holds conferences with parents in the fall, winter, and spring with mutually defined goals. Consults parents about their child's needs and follows through via written and verbal communication in a timely manner. Posts information regarding teacher absences and contagious diseases as needed. Submits written, age‑appropriate, culturally sensitive activity plans to the coordinator promptly, evidencing observation and audit. Includes field trips, intergenerational experiences, approved videotapes, and playground activities. Listens attentively, responds clearly, encourages language use, and provides opportunities for positive interaction and dialogue.

• Coordinates with all staff to meet center goals and keeps the environment safe, clean, healthy, and organized per CACFP and ADHS. Participates in problem‑solving and implements procedures to meet these goals throughout the day, including sweeping, cleaning, sanitizing chairs and tables, children’s bathrooms, carpet upkeep, and equipment sanitation. Organizes playground and classroom environments, supply closet, shed, cabinets, counters, and equipment. Completes playground safety checklists daily and verbally notifies the coordinator, manager, and director immediately of safety concerns.

• Assesses, guides, and evaluates Assistants, Teachers, Interns, or volunteers, acting as a role model in health, safety, and child guidance. Coordinates with all coordinators to complete assigned projects or tasks. Ensures staff practices appropriate guidance for assigned age group, demonstrating respect and caring for each child. Assists with supply purchase, data entry, van upkeep, census reports, and other projects accurately and promptly. Maintains attendance rosters and flash counts per day, submitting them to the coordinator. Ensures staff follows CACFP meal service guidelines, portion sizes, and meal recording. Informs staff of children with IEP and medical needs. Implements a framework for classroom guidance and discipline with standards of behavior, courtesy, and health habits. Supervises children by sight and sound both inside and outside the classroom at all times. Provides performance evaluations of Assistants, Interns, Volunteers, and Teachers to the manager or director as required.

• Acts as daily coordinator for the center on a rotating basis. Coordinates staffing to ensure teacher‑child ratios are in compliance at all times and plans staffing for the following day. Covers breaks as necessary and responds to time‑off requests promptly. Maintains sick/absence communications to teachers and manages ill/injured children per guidelines. Monitors compliance with governing regulations, collects data reports, and ensures classroom paperwork is completed. Communicates with coordinator, manager, director, and parents to resolve issues. Answers telephones in reception area as needed. Coordinates field trips in compliance with established guidelines. Provides written documentation of significant events, including illness, parent complaints, safety concerns, and injuries, following appropriate procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field such as Human Development, Family Studies, or Child Care Administration – Preferred
• High School Diploma or GED – Required
• Other: One of the following – Required (a) Current Child Development Associate (CDA) from the Council for Professional Recognition, (b) Early Childhood Certificate from an accredited college with 1‑2 years teaching experience, (c) Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field, or (d) Successful completion of related Associate’s Degree qualifying coursework with a written qualifying statement from the accredited college.

Experience

• 1 to 2 years as teacher or equivalent – Required
• 2 years as lead teacher or equivalent – Preferred

• Fingerprint Clearance Card – State Current Arizona Dept. of Health Services Fingerprint Clearance Card Upon Hire – Required

• Must satisfy all of the above requirements in addition to having at least 2 years Teacher or Lead Teacher experience at a licensed child care facility.
• For positions requiring driving HonorHealth vehicles: clean driving record per HonorHealth Network Driver Qualification Policy Q‑359, minimum age 21, valid Arizona driver’s license, Motor Vehicle Report obtained and reviewed by Human Resources, and completion of the quarterly HonorHealth Defensive Driving Course with certificate – Required
