About the Department
Position Description	The School of Music at Georgia State University in Atlanta seeks to hire a non-tenure track Limited Term Lecturer in Bands to begin in the 2025-26 academic year. This is a full-time, one-year position with the possibility of renewal for a second year, and it is eligible for full health and retirement benefits (see GSU Benefits). The successful candidate will play a vital role in the School of Music as an educator furthering Georgia State's strategic goal of demonstrating that students can achieve academic and career success at high rates. Responsibilities The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence; execute teaching a pedagogically sound curriculum in line with Georgia State University's commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching; and will teach the equivalent of four three-credit-hour courses per academic semester. The selected candidate can expect a teaching load similar to this: FALL SEMESTER Conduct the Concert Band Co-teach the Panther Marching Band Teach an additional course based on the needs of the School of Music and as the schedule allows (i.e. conducting class, music theory, aural skills, music appreciation, etc.) SPRING SEMESTER Conduct the Concert Band Teach three additional course(s) based on the needs of the School of Music and as the schedule allows (i.e. conducting classes, music theory, aural skills, music appreciation, etc.). Music Education student teaching observations as available. Assist with the administration of winter guard activities . Assist with the administration and planning of off-season marching band activities and special events within the band area. The candidate will be expected to Help attract, recruit, and retain talented woodwind, brass, and percussion students from the state of Georgia and beyond, especially in performance and instrumental music education, Maintain a visible profile as an educator, Interact with pre-collegiate students and high school music programs, Teach supplementary courses and other related courses as needed and as the schedule allows (i.e. conducting courses, music theory, aural skills, music appreciation, etc.), Work closely with the instrumental faculty, and all School of Music colleagues, Attend faculty meetings (including those of the band area, department, college, and university), Actively participate in faculty governance at the school and other faculty administrative assignments as needed.
Required Experience	At least one (1) year of teaching band at the high school or college level.
Required Education	Master's degree in music or equivalent (i.e., licensure from an international accredited institution) at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience	Doctorate in Music Experience and as a full-time band director at the collegiate level An established national reputation as a conductor Teaching band at the college level A commitment to music instruction
