Job Summary

The Department of Communication at Georgia College & StateUniversity invites applications for an 18-month Limited-TermLecturer position (non-tenure track) as a Communication StudiesGeneralist to begin January 2027. Appointment is for Springsemester 2027 and AY 2027-2028.

This position will teach courses at the undergraduate level.Successful candidates are expected to engage students in researchand/or creative activities. Areas of instructional need may includemedia literacy, professional media writing, interviewing andlistening, and publication editing.

The position emphasizes effective teaching, curriculum development,and mentorship of students preparing for careers in publicrelations, multimedia journalism, video and audio production, andother related communication fields. Additionally, the faculty mayteach in the CORE.

Faculty - Teaching / Instructing

• All faculty members contribute to the Georgia College & StateUniversity (GCSU) core curriculum by teaching topical freshman(GC1Y), sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses, or in other areas of thecore.
• All GCSU faculty share the responsibility of teaching our corecurriculum and providing foundation courses for majors andnon-majors alike.
• To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek facultywith the ability to engage students as they launch theirintellectual journey.
• This position teaches 5 courses per semester.

Faculty - Professional Development

Limited term faculty are expected to stay current in theirfield.

Faculty - Service to Institution

• All faculty are expected to help the department in recruitingmajors.
• Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings andevents.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

An M.A., Ph.D., or a M.F.A. in the communication discipline at thetime of appointment is expected.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S.3.7.1.

Required Experience

Understanding of the principles associated with effective teachingand learning.

Relevant academic or professional experience in communication(i.e., professional media writing, public relations, interviewingand listening, publication editing, advertising).
