Job description

**Job Description:**

As a Limited Scope Medical Assistant, you need to know how to:

  1. Greet and prepare patients for the healthcare provider while maintaining a positive and caring attitude.
  2. Be attentive to patients' needs, coordinate care, administer care, and document appropriately.
  3. Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
  4. Obtain and record patient information; vital signs, height, weight, allergies, current medications, medical history, and chief complaint, etc.
  5. May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  6. Per provider request, may perform routine tests including but not limited to EKGs, hearing, and vision screens.
  7. Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up as appropriate to ensure completion of testing.
  8. Communicate test results to patients and establish a plan of care by phone or mail as directed by the provider.
  9. Document patient plan(s) of care, tests, and examination results in the medical record as directed by the provider.
  10. Prepare, clean, and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; stock patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness and organization, and dispose of contaminated items according to protocol.
  11. Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral, injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant administration.
  12. Perform clinical diagnostic x-rays and prepare completed studies for provider review.
  13. Perform all required processor and equipment maintenance and quality control processes.
  14. Prepare patients for radiologic procedures and protect patients, self, and other staff from radiation hazards.
  15. Take X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients.
  16. Position patients and take X-ray of specific parts of the patient's body as requested by the physician.
  17. Process film and check X-ray for clarity of image; retake when necessary.
  18. Distribute X-ray to appropriate medical staff.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  3. Current Limited Scope certificate and state license
  4. Maintain radiology educational credits
  5. Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire (with prior approval)
  6. Minimum of three (3) months of previous experience within a healthcare setting
  7. Successful completion of initial MA onboarding program within 90 days, annual skills fair, and in-services for site-specific tasks

**Preferred Qualifications:**

  1. Successful completion of an Accredited National Certification Exam (e.g., AAMA or AMT) for Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
  2. At least one (1) year of Medical Assistant experience

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring verbal communication and quick, accurate hearing and understanding, especially during emergencies.

Manual dexterity for manipulating complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use and typing.

Expected to lift, transfer, bend, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items.

Need to walk, assist with patient transport, and navigate busy, crowded rooms.

May be required to stand for extended periods.

For roles involving driving, the ability to operate a vehicle and interpret traffic signs and signals is necessary.
