Lila Sciences is seeking thoughtful and dynamic Research Associates to join our physical sciences team. The successful candidates will be responsible for developing and executing materials and chemistry experiments for human-in-loop and autonomous workflows. This role provides a unique opportunity to engage in innovative research and development activities across multiple disciplines, hone a diversity of skills, and help realize a new paradigm in scientific discovery. We anticipate making multiple hires to support a range of research activities in solid state materials and chemistry. We are passionate about training the next generation of research leaders for AI-driven science and are focused exclusively on pre-doctoral candidates under this opportunity.

  • Design and execute experiments to investigate thermocatalytic processes.
  • Work with the Physical Sciences team to design, execute, and monitor research workflows for a broad range of materials chemistries and functionalities.
  • Analyze PVD process and materials characterization data and interpret results to identify trends and generate hypotheses.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including experimental and machine learning scientists, to synthesize materials for scientific objectives.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities to optimize experimental protocols.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in executing and interpreting materials and chemistry experiments
  • Commitment to lab safety and fostering a culture of well-being for all colleagues
  • Proficiency in a diversity of laboratory techniques spanning materials synthesis and characterization
  • Effective and respectful written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience synthesizing materials across multiple technical areas (e.g., energy, protective coatings, optics, catalysis)
  • Experience with sample preparation, experiment execution, and data interpretation for XRD, SEM, XRF, and nanomechanical characterization
  • Experience in chemical synthesis of solid-state materials
  • Experience with heterogeneous catalysis and analytical chemistry
  • Experience with python programming and data analytics
