Job summary

SilverBack is seeking a Lightning Protection Technician to coordinate and install lightning protection and grounding systems on diverse structures across the United States. You will ensure compliance with NFPA 780, UL 96A, and LPI-175, working with electrical teams to integrate surge protection components.

The role requires up to 75% travel to project sites nationwide, with a focus on safety, quality, and precise documentation of installations and inspections.

Qualifications

  • Experience in electrical/construction projects with knowledge of lightning protection.
  • Must hold OSHA 10 and Fall Protection certs.
  • Ability to read blueprints and install at heights.

Currently, we are looking for Lightning Protection Technicians for major commercial, industrial, and Data Center infrastructure projects across multiple locations in the United States.

Position Overview

The Lightning Protection Installation Technician is responsible for the coordination and installation of lightning protection projects. The purpose of the role is to install lightning protection and grounding systems on a variety of structures across all forms of private, public, industrial, commercial, and Data Center sectors.

This role ensures that systems comply with US standards such as NFPA 780, UL 96A, and LPI-175 standards and that all components from roof to ground are installed correctly and functioning.

Note: This is a travel-based position requiring up to 75% travel to support project delivery across various US site locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install lightning protection systems, including air terminals, conductors, bonding, and grounding. Coordinate with electrical contractors for surge protection component installation, ensuring compliance with national standards.
  • Inspect and test existing systems to verify proper function and compliance with industry standards.
  • Diagnose faults, perform repairs, and upgrade systems to current safety standards.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Work safely at heights on roofs, ladders, and scaffolding to install system components.
  • Document inspections, maintenance activities, and installation details for compliance reporting.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience & Background:
  • Proven hands-on experience in the electrical or construction industry (an electrical background is strongly preferred).
  • Experience working on commercial, industrial, or critical infrastructure projects.
  • Prior experience in Lightning Protection Systems is a major plus, but candidates with strong electrical/construction experience who are open to training will be considered.
Certifications:
  • OSHA 10 Certification is required.
  • Fall Protection Certification is required.
Technical & Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to read technical drawings and follow detailed installation standards.
  • Comfort working outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and at heights (roofs, scaffolding, ladders).
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Flexibility to travel up to 75% to project sites across the US.
