Job summary

Visual Comfort & Co. is seeking a Lighting Technology Designer to design, specify, and layout lighting control systems and motorized shading solutions. You will collaborate with project teams and external partners to create intelligent, responsive environments in premium residential settings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in lighting design or related field is required.
  • 3+ years of project-based residential lighting experience required.
  • Licensing/certifications in lighting/control systems a plus; willingness to earn certifications.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel; familiarity with Dialux/AGI32 is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate system layouts for lighting control and shading solutions.
  • Design and document lighting control systems within Visual Comfort standards.
  • Present technology designs to builders, designers, architects, and integrators.
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Project Designers, and Project Management teams.
  • Serve as a technical resource for clients and internal teams.
  • Travel for client meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs in showroom markets.

Reporting directly to Technology Design Manager or Lighting Design Manager within the Systems department, the Lighting Technology Designer will collaborate with our internal Project Design, Business Development, and Project Management Teams as well as client and external design partners to design, specify, and layout lighting control systems and automated shading solutions. This role will help create more intelligent, responsive, and beautifully lit environments.

How success is defined:
  • Produce accurate, efficient, and creative system layouts and documentation for lighting, lighting control and motorized shading solutions, utilizing AutoCAD and/or other applicable design tools.
  • Execute technology design plans within Visual Comfort standards, ensuring consistency and quality across both system designs and client-facing deliverables.
  • Participate in and/or lead technology presentations to builders, interior designers, architects, and integrators, showcasing control and automation solutions.
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Project Designers, and Project Management Teams across all markets to convert new customers and further develop relationships with existing Visual Comfort clients.
  • Leverage deep product knowledge and system design expertise to act as a technical resource to internal team members and clients.
  • Travel for client meetings, project walk-throughs, and site visits within assigned showroom and trade area markets.
  • Meet established project milestones and deadlines, ensuring timely delivery of all design phases.
  • Work effectively with others in a team environment to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in lighting design, architecture, industrial engineer, or related discipline required.
  • 3+ years of project-based residential, lighting control, fixture, or design/drafting experience required.
  • Lutron or AVIXA and/or CEDIA certifications a plus; ability to successfully earn and maintain applicable professional certifications related to lighting controls, shading systems, and residential technology solutions.
  • Proficient computer and drafting skills utilizing AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Acrobat, and Excel; experience with Dialux or AGI32 helpful but not required.
  • Project management experience helpful but not required.
  • Experience in interior design, custom home building products, luxury home furnishings, and/or lighting industry a plus.
  • Keen eye for design and creativity.
  • Knowledge of residential construction processes and a good understanding of construction documents.
  • Experience professionally presenting solutions to customers.

Compensation Range: $80,000

Compensation is based on individual factors, including skill set, relevant experience, and work location
