Job summary

Stantec invites a student intern to join its Lighting Design group for a summer experience across multiple offices in the United States. You will work on lighting designs, fixture selection, lighting controls, energy code compliance, and all aspects of lighting design and documentation.

The role is predominately in-person with occasional hybrid remote work, with locations including Washington DC, Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle, or Denver offices.

Qualifications

• Student actively pursuing a 4-year degree in an accredited design or engineering program with a focus on lighting design.
• Strong Revit knowledge and familiarity with BIM applications.

Responsibilities

• Produce lighting layouts in Revit.
• Perform photometric calculations using AGI32 or LightStanza.
• Ensure energy code compliance calculations.
• Prepare reports and presentation materials.
• Develop luminaire schedules and product specs.
• Collaborate with design team on lighting concepts and documentation.
• Develop and review mock-ups.

Stantec's Lighting Design group offers talented professionals the opportunity to transform visions into designs that illuminate some of the most impressive buildings in the world. Our Denver office is currently seeking a student intern lighting designer to spend the summer working with our award-winning Lighting Design group. The candidate would be responsible for working on lighting designs, fixture selection, lighting controls, energy code compliance and all aspects of lighting design and documentation. The preferred candidate will be a self-starter that enjoys working collaboratively alongside other creative minds and problem solvers.

This position will be predominately in-person working from the office, with occasional hybrid remote work. Location could be in Washington DC, Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle, or Denver offices.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Producing lighting layouts in Revit.
• Photometric calculations utilizing AGI32 or LightStanza software.
• Energy code compliance calculations.
• Report writing.
• Developing presentation materials, renderings and graphic packages.
• Developing luminaire schedules and pulling product specification sheets.
• Develop and review mock-ups.
• Collaboration with design team.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Can-do approach to project work and assignments.
• Competent knowledge of Revit.
• Familiarity with BIM applications such as SketchUp, Enscape, Navisworks, Lumion, Rhino.
• Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to research and present design options.
• Strong prioritization and time-management skills.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Competent knowledge of and proficiency with photometric calculation software such as LightStanza, AGI32, photometric toolbox, and IES files.

Education and Experience

Students actively pursuing a 4-year degree in an accredited design or engineering program with a focus on lighting design.

Pay Range

$23.47 - $34.50 Hourly

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
