Syska Hennessy Group in New York is seeking a Lighting Design Summer Intern to support our lighting design team on diverse projects. You will gain hands-on experience, work within a collaborative environment, and contribute to the production of lighting designs and client-ready deliverables.

The program emphasizes learning through design challenges, site visits, and design presentations using Photoshop and AGI.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or Architectural Engineering.
  • Must be at a minimum in your second year of bachelor’s degree.
  • Previous lighting internship or co-op experience is a significant benefit.
  • Proficiency or knowledge in AutoCAD (latest version).
  • Experience or basic knowledge of REVIT and/or design and calculation software; MS Office Suite.
  • Proficient/knowledgeable in AGI lighting calculation software.
  • Proficient/knowledge in Photoshop.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare AutoCAD and Revit drawings of lighting design systems.
  • Assist designers with design calculations utilizing AGI software.
  • Participate with designers in field investigations and construction site visits.
  • Assist designers with developing conceptual lighting design presentations using Photoshop.
  • Participation in industry events and lighting design lunch & learns with manufacturers.

We currently have an opportunity for a Lighting Design Summer Intern.

Internship Responsibilities

As an intern you will support our lighting design team develop designs that are inspiring, creative, demanding and highly collaborative. You will learn from others, and they will expect to learn from you. You will share in the responsibility, rewards and recognition of producing truly innovative solutions and complete client satisfaction. The pace is fast, and the camaraderie is close.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Prepare AutoCAD and Revit drawings of lighting design systems
  • Assist designers with design calculations utilizing AGI software
  • Participate with designers in field investigations and construction site visits to observe and verify compliance with design documents
  • Assist designers with developing conceptual lighting design presentations utilizing photoshop software
  • Participation in industry events
  • Participate in lighting design lunch & learns with lighting manufacturers

Internship Requirements

The ideal candidate will enjoy a team environment and be flexible enough to work independently where needed. Candidates for this role will be eager to learn and will expand their knowledge and hands on experience by challenging themselves and using the highly technical resources around them.

Additional job requirements:

  • Pursing a bachelor’s degree from accredited university in Lighting Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or Architectural Engineering

Join us this summer to prepare for your career as an Engineer through our Intern Education Program. This program consists of lunch- and- learn sessions covering various aspects of our business while gaining “hands-on” experience working with our lighting designers and visiting project sites. Once you graduate, jump start your career by joining Syska Hennessy Group and our EDT program.

The salary range listed below is for this particular job posting. Actual pay range for candidates will be commensurate with candidate’s experience, skillsets and competencies and may differ based on the cost of labor in their particular location.

New York Pay Range

$35,027 - $52,541 USD
