Job description

The Advisory Teacher will virtually assist students and parents/learning coaches with course selection, scheduling, and serve as the initial point of contact for student concerns across multiple subject areas, including non-academic issues. The role requires becoming an expert on course and credit requirements and collaborating with the School Counselor to establish counseling processes for elementary and middle school students.

The Advisory Teacher will be responsible for the following tasks:

  1. Make welcome calls to new students and inform grade level teachers of new enrollments.
  2. Monitor grade level escalation, including contacts and participation.
  3. Monitor attendance, communicate with caretakers regarding expectations, and make necessary adjustments.
  4. Advise students and families on academics, career planning, and graduation requirements.
  5. Assist with course selection and development of a Four Year Plan for graduation.
  6. Guide students through dropping courses and schedule changes, ensuring policy adherence.
  7. Coordinate with administrative assistants to manage student records.
  8. Help families access school and community resources.
  9. Monitor truancy for assigned grades.
  10. Assist with academic planning.
  11. Implement programs addressing interpersonal issues.
  12. Participate in crisis prevention and management planning and serve on the Student Support Team.
  13. Identify students at risk or in crisis, acting as main contact and maintaining communication.
  14. Oversee and maintain each student’s Personal Learning Plan (PLP).
  15. Ensure complete and accurate student records.
  16. Support families during withdrawal processes, including data collection.
  17. Report and refer critical incidents per regulations and standards.
  18. Assist with enrolling students mid-semester and integrating them into coursework.
  19. Take on teaching and grading duties, including middle school electives if necessary.
  20. Support professional development for staff.
  21. Assist with state testing, including proctoring and participation monitoring.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  1. Two-step authentication is required for system login upon job offer.
  2. Michigan teacher certification is preferred.
  3. Michigan residency is required.
  4. Strong technology skills, especially with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  6. Highly organized, punctual, and detail-oriented.
  7. Customer-focused with a flexible approach.
  8. Demonstrated leadership and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Willingness to travel for in-person events, including overnight stays.
  10. Availability for occasional evening work and remote work if necessary.
