Job description

The Light Truck Service Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. The Technician must have a minimum of a Class “E” Commercial Driver’s License as moving units and test driving are integral parts of this job. Technicians diagnose and correct mechanical concerns and maintain safety of customer vehicles.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESReceive repair order from dispatcher and move vehicle to be worked on into stall area.Visually examine and test drive the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required. If a safety concern is noted, immediately notify foreman for determination on how to proceed. Worker and public safety should be your top priority.Advise service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform the repair. Perform work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts, carry parts to job and install same on truck in correct manner. Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer.Document work performed in computer terminals located through-out the service department. Road-test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician. (The customer’s vehicle must never be used for personal errands).Attend factory sponsored training classes and dealership sponsored training.Keep current on factory technical bulletins.Ensure that customer’s trucks are kept clean. Keep shop area neat and clean and be able to account for all dealership owned tools which you have used at all times, returning same after use.Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous wastes.Miscellaneous other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:Ford and/or ASE certification preferred. Must provide own tools. Ability to communicate and work with others in service department.WORKING CONDITIONS:This is a physically demanding position. The Technician will stand six to eight hours per shift, lift parts weighing up to 100 pounds several times during a shift and use hoist and test equipment as needed. S/he will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and feel. S/he will use hand and power tools. S/he will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Road testing of vehicles will be required. The Technician will be required to wear company uniforms at all times.
