The Light Rail Vehicle Engineer is responsible for all operational, maintenance, configuration, and technical aspects of Valley Metro’s rail vehicles. Assures Rail Rolling Stock and support equipment remain compliant with Valley Metro quality standards, specifications, FTA and/or ADOT requirements, and all safety-related aspects. Serves as the technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all of Valley Metro’s Rail Rolling Stock in support of Rail Maintenance and Management.

Highly Desired Experience:
Position requires the incumbent to successfully qualify to operate Rail Vehicles.
Ability to successfully pass Rail Vehicle Operator Safety Training.
Medical Examination: Employment for safety sensitive positions is contingent on passing a physical examination.
Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Arizona Driver's License.

Heavy Work: Incumbent may be required to perform heavy manual labor, occasionally lifting and maneuvering materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Work Environment: Work is performed both in a shop environment and outside in various weather conditions including exposure to extreme heat and cold. Incumbents work is performed around equipment and machinery with moving parts and under wet and slippery conditions. Incumbents are exposed daily to electrical hazards, vibrations, chemicals, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, grease, oil, dust, fumes, smoke and gases and are intermittently exposed to intense noise levels.
