Job Summary:

The Light Equipment Operator 2 – Bindery is responsible for operating various offline and auxiliary binding, finishing, and packaging equipment in support of print production. This position ensures equipment is properly set up, maintained, and operated efficiently to meet production schedules and quality standards. May assist in crew coordination and provide training to new team members.



Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operate offline and auxiliary bindery, finishing, and packaging equipment (e.g., folders, cutters, shrink wrappers, laminators).
  • Set up and adjust machines and equipment for specific production runs according to job specifications.
  • Monitor equipment during operation to ensure optimal performance and product quality.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and maintenance on assigned machines
  • Troubleshoot minor mechanical issues and submit maintenance requests as needed.
  • Assist with the assignment of crewmembers for production tasks to ensure workflow efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and on-the-job training to new or less experienced team members.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, complying with all safety protocols and production standards.



Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Equivalent to 8th grade plus additional classes.
  • 3 to 6 months of specific vocational preparation in operating bindery or related light equipment experience.
  • Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables.
  • Ability to use arithmetic to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to set up and adjust equipment, perform basic troubleshooting, and conduct routine maintenance based on standard procedures.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Frequent physical activity: Includes standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping and crouching. Plus, handling materials, and fine motor tasks like fingering and operating equipment controls.
  • Frequent need for near acuity, depth perception, and accommodation for machine monitoring and precision tasks.
  • Manual dexterity: Frequent keyboard use and finger movements required for equipment operation and adjustments.
  • Hearing and communication: Frequent need to hear instructions and respond appropriately in a team environment.
  • Work environment: Exposure to loud noise machinery & vibrations from equipment.
