POSITION SUMMARY:

The Light Equipment Operator/General Laborer is responsible for regulating traffic flow in and out of the DCRR building, interacting with and providing customer service in a professional manner. Responsibilities include sorting and prescreening loads, maintaining facility and property cleanliness, and organization.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Perform preventive maintenance and inspect fluids and hoses on assigned equipment.
• Prescreen, remove, and recover bulky items that cannot go through the processing line.
• Transfer material from the tip floor to the backhoe operator.
• Maintain cleanliness inside and outside the building, manually or with equipment.
• Ensure belts are aligned and in good condition; monitor the quality of material on belts.
• Communicate with the transfer station manager regarding problematic loads.
• Coordinate with loader operators about heavy equipment needs on the tip floor.
• Ensure loads are correctly placed on the tip floors.
• Transfer tires or appliances to designated areas.
• Spot check loads for hazardous materials or non-recyclable items.
• Assist the facility manager with maintenance tasks as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to learn and operate other heavy equipment.
• Perform other job duties with proper training.
• Possibility of obtaining various certifications related to the area of responsibility.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Previous experience with heavy or light equipment.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Outdoor environment with exposure to extreme weather, heavy machinery, dust, fumes, noise, odors, gases, traffic, and possibly toxic chemicals.

Frequent standing and walking; regular use of hands and fingers; reaching; occasional lifting/moving up to 100 pounds.
