  • Collaborate with supervisors and crew members to plan routes and prioritize areas needing attention.
  • Cut right-of-ways throughout city and county.
  • Maintain accurate reports of work completed, and equipment usage.
  • Reports malfunctions of equipment to the supervisor.
  • Performs traffic control when assigned.
  • Notes and reports malfunctions of equipment to the proper authority.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job description

Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled work in the operation of light duty motorized equipment and the performance of manual tasks in connection with such operations. Responsible for operating specialized mowing and vegetation control equipment to maintain right-of-ways. Ability to operate farm equipment (tractors). This role ensures safe visibility and access for motorists, pedestrians and utility crews.

The following duties are typical for this job. They are not considered exclusive or all-inclusive. Any one position may include a selected combination of these duties. Other duties may be required or assigned.

  • Operates light duty equipment such as bush hogs, tiger mowers, and tractors.
  • Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on assigned equipment (checks fluids, blades, tires, and windows for cracks).
  • Safely navigate and work around traffic, slopes, ditches, and uneven landscape.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and crew members to plan routes and prioritize areas needing attention.
  • Cut right-of-ways throughout city and county.
  • Maintain accurate reports of work completed, and equipment usage.
  • Reports malfunctions of equipment to the supervisor.
  • Performs traffic control when assigned.
  • Notes and reports malfunctions of equipment to the proper authority.
  • Performs other duties as required.
SECONDARY JOB DUTIES:
  • Operates medium and heavy equipment under close supervision on an occasional basis as may be required.
  • Performs additional unique and specialized duties as may be required by the department.
  • Completes special projects and performs other miscellaneous duties as required.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Light and medium vegetation control and right-of-way clearing equipment, and other assigned equipment.

High school diploma / GED or equivalent combination of education and experience, and One (1) year experience operating small tractors and mowers.

  • Knowledge of the operation of various types of light equipment, such as bush hogs, mowers, and tractors.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and ordinances pertaining to the safe and legal operation of tractors, trucks, and equipment.
  • Ability to make minor adjustments, maintenance and perform service work.
  • Ability to withstand constant jerking and bouncing while operating equipment.
  • Ability to learn the general layout of the city and county and learn routes.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and with members of the general public.
