Job summary

Interstate Waste Services is seeking an Equipment Operator to support operations across the greater New York, New Jersey and Connecticut markets with a rail-served Ohio facility. You will operate forklifts and skid steers, ensure safety policies, and communicate with a team of drivers and managers in a dynamic yard environment.

The role requires 2+ years of operator experience, outdoor work in variable conditions, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and eligible to work in the United States.
• Lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as Equipment Operator.
• Experience in sanitation industry preferred.
• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions and environments.

Responsibilities

• Operate Fork lift (Telehandler), Skid Steer and related machinery.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures.
• Communicate with drivers, employees and management via radios/CBs.
• Routinely inspect equipment prior to operation.
• Move materials around railyard and maintain smooth workflow.
• Follow OSHA safety standards and wear PPE.

Essential Job Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

• Operate equipment such as Fork lift (Telehandler), Skid Steer with various other small machinery
• Follow all required safety policies and procedures
• Effective communication with drivers, employees, and management via hand held radios and CBs
• Routinely set up and inspect equipment prior to operation
• Have knowledge of machine capabilities and limitations
• Observe hand signals, grade stakes, or other markings when operating machines to perform work duties in compliance of safety specifications
• Receive written and oral instruction regarding material movement
• Move materials around railyard
• Maintain an efficient flow to reduce traffic congestion
• Follow OSHA safety standards and wear required PPE

Requirements And Qualifications

• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as Equipment Operator required.
• Experience from the sanitation industry is strongly preferred.
• Able to work in an outdoor environment on a constant basis while being exposed to variable weather conditions, temperatures, chemicals, dust, fumes, smells, and loud noises.
