Job Description:
Essential responsibilities:
- Follow work schedule and perform all daily and weekly job tasks in assigned work area to meet department standards of cleanliness.
- Understand and follow department procedures at all times.
- Follow instructions and respond to work assignments from the manager or lead person consistently.
- Provide thorough cleaning and restock all supplies in assigned work areas (patient rooms, restrooms, bathrooms, common areas, etc.).
- Manage work time efficiently and complete scheduled tasks by the end of the shift.
- Inspect work area and perform necessary cleaning tasks independently.
For staff working in patient care areas only:
- Arrange work schedule to assist with the timely cleaning of discharged beds.
- Ensure cleaned rooms are well organized, with the correct number of chairs and a patient guide at the bedside.
- Assist Nursing staff with keeping laundry bags emptied.
- Move equipment to and from patient rooms to storage areas.
- Clean floors by dry mopping and damp mopping, including edges and corners; move and clean behind equipment as needed.
- Dust vents and surfaces regularly, including high and low dusting.
- Remove trash from assigned areas at the beginning and end of shift.
- Spot wash walls or carpets as needed.
- Polish stainless steel, brass, and other surfaces according to schedule.
- Maintain department equipment, ensuring cleanliness and safety; report any issues.
- Keep supplies well-stocked and organized in closets and carts.
- Attend hospital/department in-services and meetings as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience in hospital or industrial cleaning; sanitation principles preferred.
- Ability to read and write to understand instructions, warnings, and complete logs.
- Interpersonal skills to interact courteously with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Attention to detail for the majority of work hours.
