Job description

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - Technicians (IBEW-T), Local 1547, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Department and Work Details
  • Department: Maintenance & Operations
  • Hours of Work: 4/10s, Tuesday - Friday, 7:00 am - 5:30 pm; schedule may change as business requires.
  • Location: 4551 Fairbanks Street
Employment Eligibility

Applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage cannot provide sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas.

Job Responsibilities

The Equipment Technician inspects, adjusts, diagnoses, maintains, and repairs heavy equipment, hybrid (high voltage), and standard light-duty vehicles. Responsibilities include welding, fabricating, mounting, using diagnostic tools, performing preventive maintenance, DOT brake inspections, tire maintenance, chassis 'shakedowns,' emissions testing, and operating various hand and power tools. Ensures quality and efficiency of work, documents via maintenance software, and maintains a safe work environment.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, plus completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program, and four (4) years of related experience.
  • Or, high school diploma, GED, or equivalent, plus five (5) years of related experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Satisfactory background check (criminal, education, employment).
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver's License with a satisfactory DMV record.
  • Current Alaska Driver's License and DMV record required for employment; processing fees apply.
  • All certifications/licenses must remain current during employment.
